Staff Sergeant John A. Jackson Jr., a member of the 425th Air Base Group, Izmir, Turkey, was convicted in a general court martial November 1, 2008 in the Ramstein Germany Courtroom by a military judge and found guilty of rape, in violation of Article 120, Uniform Code of Military Justice; and assault, in violation of Article 128, UCMJ. Sergeant Jackson was sentenced to reduction to E-1, confinement for five years and six months and a dishonorable discharge.

Sergeant Jackson was convicted of raping his ex-girlfriend, who is a 23-year-old German, in December 2006 and January 2007 and raping her in July 2007, after the couple broke up. He was married to a British national during his relationship with the victim.

Prosecutors called the victim to the stand as well as her mother, who saw the bruises after she was dragged down the stairs; two of the victim’s friends; and a psychologist, who testified about rape victims’ typical behavior.

He was also convicted of assaulting her by grabbing her arm and ankles. Once released from confinement, Sergeant Jackson will be required to register as a sex offender.
